Zanshin 残心 - a must for exam taking!
It has been a while since I wrote anything here, but something happened and I want to share it.
One of my sons had a math test at school recently, and he did not do too well. Upon reviewing the test, he realised that all were careless mistakes and he knew how to do them correctly. I have been a teenager, you don't want a lecture. Instead I asked him if he remembers what "zanshin (残心)" was, to which he replied "yes". I then said to him, "treat your exam like an opponent you are facing, you cut him down, but let your guard down. He strikes you back."
I hope it got through to him.
In life, there are quite a number of budo concepts that apply to daily events. Zanshin is one.
